SHOWKAT SHAFI born in 1986 in Kashmir. Showkat joined bachelors in communication and journalism, with photography as the main subject of interest. In 2006, He started working as a freelance photojournalist and worked for some publishing houses also. In 2008 his pictures were published by Reuters, Drik news (international news photo agency) and Sakaal times. Showkat is currently working as a stinger for AL-JAZEERA from March 2011.He has been involved in reporting conflict in Kashmir. Showkat has got many opportunities to cover multiple live encounters between militia and security forces. In addition to conflict, events, nature, human interest has been his strong suit.
Presently Showkat is pursuing Masters in Journalism at Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST).
